Impatiens walleriana ‘Imara’™ XDR

Impatiens walleriana ‘Imara’™ XDR

The time has come to take back the shade! The home gardener’s favorite shade-loving plant is back and better than ever. Many of us remember the outbreak of Impatiens Downy Mildew (IDM) that spreads across the country in 2011. This outbreak decimated many mass plantings of Impatiens, causing Landscapers and home gardeners alike to seek alternative shade plants for their gardens. After years of field trials and testing, the ‘Imara’™ XDR series has emerged as a clear leader.

Introduced at the 2019 California Spring Plant Trials, Impatiens walleriana ‘Imara’™ XDR is proven to be the first Impatiens walleriana to have a high degree of resistance to Impatiens Downey Mildew. These beautiful Impatiens can be grown in partial sun to shade, rain or shine, and will bloom all season long, until first frost. They are cold hardy to 40°F. The series currently comes in a nice range of colors, and is expected to add additional colors over the next several years.

The ‘Imara’™ XDR series is easy to grow and requires little maintenance. Its proven landscape performance is reflected in its name; “Imara” is a Swahili word, meaning strength and resilience. The “XDR” in the name basically means that has extra disease resistance. This has been confirmed in independent trials in both North America and Europe.

We are currently growing the Impatiens walleriana ‘Imara’™ XDR series in both 6 packs and 4” pots. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @clearwatercolornursery to see additional photos of life around our picturesque nursery.
