Armeria maritima ‘Morning Star Deep Rose’

A recently introduced hybrid of the tried and true perennial that is commonly known as “Thrift”, “Sea Thrift”, or “Sea Pink”. Armeria maritima ‘Morning Star Deep Rose’ is very easy to grow and requires little water or maintenance once it is established. Its compact form makes it well suited for a number of growing environments such as rock gardens, window boxes and under-plantings. It makes a neat, decorative edge along a garden path or entryway.

The deep rose, globe-shaped flower clusters stand on stems that grow 6-8 inches tall, and the deep green, blade-like foliage grows in a tight cushions 6-12 inches wide. The blooms on ‘Morning Star Deep Rose’ provide a good source of nectar for butterflies and moths.

The species name, maritima , means “of the sea”. “Thrift” is often found growing in the coastal regions of the Northern Hemisphere, however it can also be found in South America. It is not only tolerant of, but really thrives in the wind and salt spray that is found at the beach, thus the name ‘Sea Thrift’
