Bracteantha bractea ‘Cottage Yellow’ (Strawflower)

Bracteantha bractea ‘Cottage Yellow’ (Strawflower)

One of the coolest perennials for your summer garden is Bracteantha bractea ‘Cottage Yellow’. (Pronounced Brac-tee-ann-tha brac-tee-ah) The ‘Cottage’ series is fairly new on the market, coming in with strong genetics, resulting in solid disease resistance. ‘Cottage Yellow’ grows 6-12” tall and wide, with strappy, deep green foliage and bright golden-yellow flowers. At first glance the flowers look like a typical mum-type flower, but when touched, it is evident that these are truly unique! They have the look and feel of dried flowers, but are growing fresh on the plant! One touch is just not enough…you’ll want to feel these delightful flowers over and over again.

As we transition into summer and fall gardens, the charming flowers of ‘Cottage Yellow’ add a touch of fun and whimsy to patios, porches, decks and balconies. For an attractive mixed container display, companion plant with Melinus nerviglumis ‘Pink Champagne’, Verbena speciosa ‘Imagination’, Lobelia ‘Trailing Sapphire’ and Dahlberg Daisy ‘Golden Fleece’. Plant in full to partial sun, in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Provide moderate water.

An added bonus to this outstanding plant is that they attract Butterflies to the garden. We are currently growing Bracteantha bractea ‘Cottage Yellow’ in 1 gallon containers.
