Osteospermum ‘Serenity’™ Series (African Daisy)

Osteospermum ‘Serenity’™ Series (African Daisy)

Introduced from South Africa about 30 years ago, Osteospermum has made itself right at home in our Central and Southern California climates. Also known as “Freeway Daisy”, it got this nickname for its tough and resilient performance when planted along Southern California’s freeway system. New breeding over the last decade has introduced an array of new and vibrant colors that are far beyond the original white and purple flowers.

The Osteospermum ‘Serenity’™ Series comes in 11 different colors and we are currently offering 3 colors, with more to come in the spring. These bushy evergreen perennials have excellent branching and are covered in large daisy flowers that attract beneficial pollinators to the garden. At maturity, they will reach 10-14” tall x 14-20” wide. Plant in full sun 20-24” apart in fertile, well-drained soil. They are drought tolerant once established, however they will look their best if irrigated on a regular basis.

These beautiful plants thrive in cool conditions and are hardy to 32°F. They are considered a full-season bloomer along the coast and a cool-season bloomer inland. The Sunset Climate Zones are 8, 9, 12-24. They are an excellent choice to mass plant on slopes for erosion control and add cheerful pops of color in pots, mixed containers, baskets, garden beds and borders. Prune lightly after blooms are spent to maintain shape, promote re-bloom, and to extend the lifespan of the plant. An added bonus is that Osteospermums are deer resistant.

We are currently growing Osteospermum ‘Serenity™ Red’, ‘Serenity™ Pink Magic’, and ‘Serenity™ Dark Purple’ in one gallon containers. We invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram @clearwatercolornursery.
