Coleonema pulchellum ‘Pink Breath of Heaven’ (C. pulchrum)

Another tried and true perennial that offers outstanding landscape performance is Coleonema pulchellum ‘Pink Breath of Heaven’. Formerly known as Diosma pulchra, this easy to care for perennial will grow to 5 feet tall and wide. However, to maintain a more compact size simply shear lightly after the main bloom cycle is complete.

‘Breath of heaven’ is fine textured, with wispy branches that are covered with tiny star-shaped flowers in shades of blush to rosy-pink. The needle-like leaves are very aromatic, making it a good candidate to be planted along a pathway where one can brush against the branches to release a sweet fragrance. It is at home in either sun, partial sun or shade as long as it is in well-drained soil. New plants require moderate irrigation, however once established it will be fairly drought tolerant.

These beautiful plants can withstand windy conditions and are hardy to 20-25°F. The Sunset Western Climate Zones are 7-9, 14-24. We are currently growing Coleonema pulchellum ‘Pink Breath of Heaven’ in one gallon containers. Follow us on Instagram @clearwatercolornursery to see what’s happening around the nursery.
