Achillea x ‘Moonshine’ (Yellow Yarrow)

Achillea x ‘Moonshine’ (Yellow Yarrow)

Achillea is a genus in the Asteraceae family along with sunflowers. Its composite flowers appear to hover like balloons over their foliage, carefree and cheerful. Their 2’ tall stems rise out of delicate blue/grey ferny foliage that forms mounds that can be divided in the spring or fall as needed. The canary-yellow flowers make lovely cut flowers in a bouquet, but will be enjoyed for 2 weeks to a month in the garden. Achillea x ‘Moonshine’ will withstand extreme heat and drought, and is deer and rabbit resistant. This is a great rock garden plant, or grown along borders. Butterflies find the wide composite umbel flower platform irresistible, and will be drawn to any garden containing yarrow. Achillea x ‘Moonshine’ is successful in Sunset Climate Zones A1-A3, and 1-24. Pair with our lovely ice blue Salvia chamaedryoides, Lavender stoechas ‘Bandera Purple’, or Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Electric blue’, for contrast that compliments and highlights each plants color and beauty.

Achillea is native to most of Europe and western Asia and North America. It is said that the genus comes from the Greek Achilles, who used the plant to stanch blood flow in soldiers’ wounds during the Trojan wars. Indeed, Yarrow has been used throughout history for its diaphoretic, astringent, tonic, stimulant, and aromatic qualities. We are currently selling Achillea x ‘Moonshine’ in 1 gallon containers.
