Guara lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’

Guara lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’

Gaura lindheimeri, also called wand flower is an herbaceous perennial that is native to Texas and Louisiana. ‘Siskiyou Pink’ is a cultivar developed by a rare plant nursery in Medford Oregon. It has lovely 4 pedaled rose-pink ‘butterfly’ flowers that flutter 18-24” above the lower foliage early summer through fall. The plant grows in a basal mound that will spread 12-30” wide, with dark green leaves tinged with burgundy. Guara ‘Siskiyou Pink’ is drought tolerant, heat and deer resistant, and has low water needs. It needs full sun, (afternoon shade in hot-summer climates) and does best when planted in well-drained soil. The Sunset climate zones are 2B - 24

Gaura lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’ is in the family Onagraceae, the Willowherb family, or Evening Primrose family, along with Fuchsia’s, and Epilobium. Gauros means ‘Superb’ in Greek, referring to its lovely flowers that bloom only a few at a time, allowing for a long bloom season. Lindheimeri comes from the German immigrant Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, who is known as the father of Texas botany. We are currently growing Gaura lindheimeri ‘Siskiyou Pink’ in Gallon containers.
