Eremophila glabra 'Kalgoorlie' (Fuchsia Emu Bush)

Eremophila glabra ‘Kalgoorlie’ (Fuchsia Emu Bush)

This low growing and spreading perennial shrub is native to the Kalgoolie region of Western Australia. It is moderately fast growing and will reach 2-3 feet tall and 6 feet wide at maturity. The foliage is grey-green, with lanceolate shaped leaves. The flowers on ‘Kalgoorie’ are tubular shaped, golden-orange with a slight tinge of red. The hummingbirds love the flowers on this plant and the low-growing, spreading growth habit provides shelter for small song birds or ground-dwelling species such as doves and quail.

Eremophila glabra ‘Kalgoorlie’ blooms from spring through early fall and does best if planted in full sun to dappled shade. It is hardy to 15-20°F. It is drought tolerant once established, and is a great choice for a water-wise garden. ‘Kalgoorlie’ benefits from being pruned periodically to promote new growth. We are growing Eremophila glabra ‘Kalgoorlie’ in both 1 gallon containers and 4.5” flats.
