This herbaceous perennial has a compact, mounding growth habit, growing 18-24 inches tall and 2-3 feet wide. ‘De La Mina’s’ lilac-purple flowers are sweetly scented and grow in clusters atop stems that extend 8 inches above the foliage.

This beautiful plant is very hardy and blooms almost all year, with its peak bloom cycle from spring through fall. It is drought tolerant once established, but will benefit from occasional irrigation in the dry summer months. It is easy to grow and makes a beautiful display when mass planted as a border or in a mixed bed with Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Electric Blue’, Calylophus drummundianus, and Verbena ‘Lascar White’.

Its fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to your garden.

Verbena lilacina ‘De La Mina’ was first discovered by Horticulturalist Carol Bornstein of the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden, when she was visiting the Canyon de la mina on Cedros Island, off the west coast of Baja California. Cedros Island has a Mediterranean climate similar to many parts of the west coast of California (such as the Central Coast) and ‘De La Mina’, as well as many other CA Natives thrive in this environment.
