This herbaceous perennial has a compact, mounding growth habit, growing 18-24 inches tall and 2-3 feet wide. ‘De La Mina’s’ purple flowers are sweetly scented and grow in clusters atop stems that extend 8 inches above the plant’s silhouette. This beautiful plant is very hardy and blooms almost all year, with its peak bloom cycle from spring through fall. It is drought tolerant once established, but will benefit from occasional irrigation in the dry summer months. It is easy to grow and makes a beautiful display when mass planted as a border or in a mixed bed with Saliva greggii ‘Autumn Moon’, Coreopsis ‘Early Sunrise’, Teuchrium fruticans ‘Azurea’ and/or Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Electric Blue’. It attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to your garden.

Verbena lilacina ‘De La Mina’ was first discovered by Horticulturalist Carol Bornstein of the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden, when she was visiting the Canyon de la mina on Cedros Island, off the west coast of Baja California. Cedros Island has a Mediterranean climate similar to many parts of the west coast of California (such as the Central Coast) and ‘De La Mina’, as well as many other CA Natives thrive in this environment. It does best if planted in full to part sun, in well-drained soil and is cold hardy to 20°F. We are growing Verbena lilacina ‘De La Mina’ is 1 gallon containers.
